Patriotism means love for one’s own country. It is a noble virtue. Without patriotism none can achieve greatness and humanity. It inspires one to have universal love and brotherhood. It moves us to fellow-feeling. It removes all sorts of meanness from a man’s mind.

It is difficult to find a true patriot. A true patriot is ready to sacrifice his life for the noble cause of the country. He aims at promoting the welfare of his country and the countrymen. To him “Mother and motherland are superior to heaven”. So he dies an honorable death. People pay him a rich homage.

An unpatriotic or a traitor is quite opposite to a patriot. He is ready to destroy the country’s interest in order to materialize his own interest. Really speaking, he is a slur to the country and the country-men. He dies an ignoble death. Nobody laments for him. Nobody pays him tribute.

Patriotism inspires a patriot to shed the last drop of his blood for the last drop of his blood for the defence and freedom of his country. It brings happiness and prosperity to the nation. It teaches a man to be broadminded; patriotism leads the nation to a liberation movement. It removes the narrowness from within the heart or mind of the citizens.

Mere utterance of patriotism will not do. We should serve the country to the best of our ability. So we must maintain a cosmopolitan spirit among all. Narrow patriotism sets like germs. It spoils the country. So we should love all without any distinction between cast and creed.
